Frequently Asked Questions

What is “advance planning?”

“Advance planning” refers to a variety of different ways you can document your wishes for medical treatment, including living wills and durable medical attorney documents. This paperwork is activated only if you are unable to make decisions for yourself. You can also designate someone to make decisions for you if you are unable to do so. Dr. Levy has experience with many different approaches to advance planning and she can help you define your values and wishes. You can read about some of the options here.

Do I have to live in Pennsylvania to use your services?

No. Dr. Levy will travel to New Jersey and parts of New York State for in-person consultations, and she can also work with you over the phone, via Skype, or with FaceTime.

I’m perfectly healthy. Do I really need a living will?

The short answer is “yes.” Unfortunately, many people suffer accidents or sudden, unpredictable illnesses that leave them unable to communicate or to make decisions for themselves. When that happens, loved ones are put in the difficult position of making those decisions while they themselves are often struggling with anxiety and stress from the grief of the event. By making your wishes clear in advance, you can reduce their suffering.

How does this work?

Dr. Levy can come see you in person to discuss your options; she can also work with you over the phone or via Skype or FaceTime. In the first conversation, she will help you define the goals of the consultation; other conversations will follow based on your specific needs. Each consultation is unique and tailored to the individual.

We just found out my husband has cancer and they’re asking us to choose a treatment. We don’t know what to do. Can you help us?

What a difficult time this must be. Yes, there is help available. Dr. Levy can speak with you and your family, review medical records if you give permission, help you determine your goals, and advise you about the options you may want to pursue.

Will Dr. Levy be our doctor?

Dr. Levy will be your guide and support; she will help you work effectively with your doctors and healthcare team. She will not be a treating physician and will not prescribe medications.

How much will this cost?

Cost is determined based on the requirements of each consultation. Dr. Levy will explain the pricing structure to you during your first conversation.
